Foot & Ankle Surgery

Dr. Kang cares for feet, ankles, and toes, performing a variety of foot and ankle surgeries and other procedures to ensure you’re not held back by your injury or condition.

Arthroplasty

Arthroplasty is done to restore the function of a joint by removing a joint or part of a joint, resurfacing the bones, and/or inserting an artificial joint. This is usually done in cases of arthritis or for joints that are destroyed beyond repair.

Fusions

A fusion is a surgical option to relieve pain in patients who have worn out a joint due to arthritis or injury, or for those with a severe deformity such as flat or high-arched feet. During fusion surgery, any damaged cartilage is removed from the joint so the surface of the bone is level. The bones are then positioned for the fusion in proper alignment. Fusions in the foot and ankle are performed with some sort of fixation, or a method of holding the bones together until they heal, which may be screws, pins, bone staples, or plates.

Osteotomy

An osteotomy is normally used to correct a deformity in a particular area of the body by cutting the bone to shorten it, lengthen it, or change its alignment. When it comes to the foot & ankle, an osteotomy is often performed to correct a bunion, removing a segment of bone from the big toe border to straighten it.

Reconstructive Surgery

While we may recommend conservative treatments before reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, surgical procedures are sometimes the best way to fully restore function in your foot and ankle. Reconstructive foot and ankle surgery at North American Spine and Pain Institute involves innovative surgical procedures that address numerous foot and ankle problems in your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and muscles.
